Young adults should be amazed when they begin reading the story of Jesus. A young peasant carpenter takes to the roads calling young adults to follow him. The very essence of this practice should give chills to those who are more established. Jesus, the wondering peasant, appoaches young adults and ask them to drop everything they have to join in a revolution that continues to this day.
For those of us who work with young adults it makes perfect sense that Jesus should choose young adults to begin his religious, political and theological revolution. You see not only do young adult have energy but they still have desire that has not been tamed by experience. What they might lack in experience is easily made up for in the desire to see the revolution of Christ come true in the world.
One might want to ask, "What is this revolution?" For those of us at the Wesley Foundation it is simple yet profound. The revolution is wrapped up in the statement, "God chooses life!" While it is true that much of our world is bent on death, destruction, judgment we affirm that God in Christ staked his reputation on life and challenges us to live in light of that choice.
How we live in light of this choice is at the center of the community at the Wesley Foundation. Worshiping, serving, playing, being, relating, laughing, sharing, conversing and praying are hall marks of our life together. Many people of faith will attempt to put at the center of their community belief, however, at the center of the Wesley Foundation is life.
In John 10:10 Jesus tells his followers, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." We believe, that at the root of our mission to make disciples, create leaders and transform lives is a calling to life abundant.
While this is not a comprehensive theological statement it is the seeds by which that larger theology of life emerges in our midst. We hope you will join us as we live toward the resurrected one.
